Biography

Méabh McCurtin is an Irish perfumer at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF). She grew up on the west coast of Ireland, raised on a university campus by a physicist-meteorologist father and a mother studying English, and spent her youth playing fiddle and piano in a travelling Irish music band.

Her route into perfumery ran through science: a degree in biochemistry at the National University of Ireland, Galway, followed by graduate study at the École Normale Supérieure in Lyon. After a stint assisting independent perfumer Daniel Andre in Geneva, she joined IFF as a perfumer's assistant in the Netherlands and trained her way up to qualified perfumer, mentored there by the French master Dominique Ropion.

McCurtin has composed for a wide range of houses, including Vyrao, Maison Margiela, Calvin Klein, Montblanc, Atelier Cologne, Ellis Brooklyn and the Irish house Cloon Keen. For Omanluxury she created Nasaj (2025), a fragrance conceived as a tribute to women's needlework and weaving traditions.

She describes her creative process as intuitive and feeling-led, working from mood and memory as much as materials. Her Cloon Keen fragrance Róisín Dubh won the Fragrance Foundation's Best New Independent Fragrance award in 2019.
