Loc Dong is a master perfumer widely described as the fine-fragrance industry's first Asian nose. Born in 1972 in Saigon, Vietnam, he encountered scent early through his herbalist grandfather's world of medicinal plants, herbs and spices, and left the country alone at the age of eleven. That formative exposure to raw botanical material is often cited as the root of his sensibility.

His professional career began in 1992 at Haarmann & Reimer, where he trained and worked for roughly a decade before joining International Flavors & Fragrances in 2002. Over some twenty years at IFF, based between New York and Paris, he built a portfolio spanning mass-market and prestige houses. In 2022 he moved to Symrise's Fine Fragrance division, contributing to its International Prestige accounts in Paris and New York.

Dong is credited on a string of commercially significant scents, including Giorgio Armani's Acqua di Gioia, Calvin Klein's Euphoria for men and women, Paco Rabanne's Olympéa, Issey Miyake's Nuit d'Issey, Michael Kors Island, Escada Desire Me and Sean John's I Am King. He frequently co-composed alongside perfumers such as Dominique Ropion, Carlos Benaïm and Anne Flipo.

Critics and industry press characterize his approach as finding balance between seemingly opposed materials and taking a fresh, confident view of synthetics. Notes and materials that recur across his work include vanilla, jasmine, cashmeran, iris, ylang-ylang, tonka bean and orange blossom.
