Daniela Andrier (née Roche) was born in 1964 in Heidelberg, Germany. She initially studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris, a path that had nothing to do with perfumery, before a chance encounter redirected her toward scent. In 1988 she took an internship at Chanel, and the following year she entered the Roure perfumery school, the training ground that later became part of Givaudan — the company where she has built her entire career as a fragrance creator.

Andrier is best known for her long, close partnership with Prada, where she has composed the majority of the house's output, including the Les Infusions line and its centerpiece, Infusion d'Iris. That relationship extended to Miu Miu's fragrances as well. Beyond the Prada Group, her name appears on releases for Yves Saint Laurent (including MYSLF), Guerlain, Bottega Veneta, Bulgari, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Kenzo, Maison Martin Margiela, Valentino, Marni, and the niche label Etat Libre d'Orange, among others.

Iris is the material she has spoken about most personally, describing it in interviews as mysterious and endlessly faceted — capable of reading as woody, powdery, or almost otherworldly depending on how it's built. Her compositions are often praised for a deceptive simplicity: a spare, quiet surface that turns out, on closer smelling, to rest on a dense and carefully engineered structure, a quality reviewers have linked to Infusion d'Iris in particular.

In June 2025, The Fragrance Foundation USA presented Andrier with its Lifetime Achievement Perfumer Award at a ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York, recognizing several decades of work at Givaudan. She continues to work as a senior perfumer there, and is married to Gilles Andrier, the company's CEO.
