Biography
Christelle Laprade is a French perfumer whose work spans niche houses and mass-market brands from a base in New York. Raised in the south of France, she pursued formal perfumery training at ISIPCA in Versailles beginning in 1997, studying under respected industry figures including Maurice Roucel and Dominique Ropion.
Her early career moved from France to the United States: she joined Expressions Parfumées in Grasse around 2000, crossed to MANE USA in New Jersey by 2003, and settled at Symrise's New York creative studio in 2006, where she has since built more than two decades of composition experience. Over that span she has developed fragrances for a broad client list that includes Commodity, Banana Republic, Christian Siriano, Calvin Klein and others.
Laprade describes her aesthetic as "trash-glam" — a deliberate collision of polish and rawness, masculine and feminine. That sensibility runs through her most visible body of work, an extensive collaboration with the niche house Mind Games, whose chess-themed releases (such as Blockade, French Defense and En Prise) each translate a strategic concept into scent. She works from a feel-good, provocative philosophy and emphasizes ethical and sustainable sourcing in her practice.
