Biography

Aurélien Guichard belongs to a long Grasse fragrance dynasty: his grandparents grew roses and jasmine for the perfume trade, and his father, Jean Guichard, is a celebrated perfumer who long directed the Givaudan perfumery school. Aurélien trained at that same school around 1999–2000 before building his own career as a composer of fine fragrance.

He spent his formative years at Givaudan, then moved through Firmenich and, from May 2018, to Takasago, where he works as a senior perfumer. Across those houses he authored a run of widely worn commercial successes, including Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme, Gucci Guilty, Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez, Versace Eros and fragrances in the Burberry line. He also became the perfumer entrusted with the modern Robert Piguet portfolio, stewarding and reworking heritage compositions such as Fracas and Bandit.

In 2019 he launched his own niche house, Matière Première, built around raw materials he cultivates himself. On agricultural land in the Grasse hinterland he grows Centifolia rose and tuberose, championing natural ingredients as the centre of his work — an approach that earned Radical Rose a Perfume Extraordinaire award from the UK Fragrance Foundation in 2021.

Guichard's signature is a rooted, materials-first sensibility: florals like rose, tuberose and jasmine handled with a modern, transparent clarity, reflecting both his family's growing tradition and his own farm-to-flacon philosophy.
