Biography

Arturetto Landi is an Italian perfumer who grew up on the Ligurian Riviera and came to fragrance by an unexpected route. Trained as a chemist, he drifted into the scent business through casual industry jobs before committing to perfumery, beginning an apprenticeship in Germany in the mid-1970s and qualifying as a perfumer around 1980. His technical schooling ran through the classic German fragrance houses, including the H&R (Haarmann & Reimer) center in Holzminden.

Over a long career he worked across the industry's major suppliers, with time attributed to Haarmann & Reimer, Dragoco and Symrise before joining Mane, where he became a senior perfumer and focused increasingly on niche and luxury commissions. His work carried him through fragrance capitals such as New York, Paris, Tokyo, Vienna and, later, the Gulf, and his compositions are often described as opulent and complex, drawing on Middle Eastern materials.

Landi's credits span designer and niche houses alike, including Diesel, MCM, biehl parfumkunstwerke, The People of the Labyrinths and the Roman niche house Pantheon Roma, for which he composed fragrances including the extrait simply titled 'A.' He has also released work under his own labels, the Profumi d'Art / Art Landi line.
