Annick Ménardo is a French perfumer, born and raised in Cannes, whose path into the industry ran through the sciences before it ran through scent: she began with organic chemistry before completing her formal perfumery training at ISIPCA. Early in her career she worked at Créations Aromatiques, where she trained under perfumer Michel Almairac, an apprenticeship that shaped her disciplined, exacting approach to building an accord.

She joined the Swiss fragrance house Firmenich in 1991 and spent nearly three decades there before moving to Symrise in November 2018, where she continues to work today. Across that span she has built one of the more instantly recognizable noses in modern perfumery, composing widely across mainstream and prestige fashion houses as well as niche labels — credits include Christian Dior, Bvlgari, Hugo Boss, Lolita Lempicka, Lancôme, Diesel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Amouage, Olfactive Studio, and Le Labo.

Ménardo's compositions are consistently described as dark, smoky, and contrast-driven — critics and colleagues have called her palette a kind of chiaroscuro, pairing scorched, tarry, or bittersweet facets (the liquorice of Lolita Lempicka, the tarry tea of Bulgari Black) against velvety, sensual bases of patchouli, vanilla, musk, and incense. She has said a fragrance succeeds for her when an accord still manages to surprise her, and her body of work tends to favor bold, architectural structures over quiet blends.

Beyond commercial perfumery she has also pursued scent as art, collaborating with sculptor Nobi Shioya on an olfactory installation, underscoring a view of perfume-making as an expressive rather than purely commercial craft.
